Weekend Preview – Saturday 30/09/17

A full League Programme this week with both Blackfield & Langley and Andover Town still holding one hundred per cent records in the Premier Division and both will be tested on Saturday. Blackfield & Langley entertain Hamble Club, who are themselves unbeaten in their last six games, while Andover Town travel to meet a Portland United side who have not as yet reached last season’s form but are still capable of beating anyone on their day. The top match in the Division is probably at Sholing where Lymington Town are the visitors. The Clubs are third and fourth in the table respectively and come into the game on the back of contrasting results in midweek with Sholing scoring six at Petersfield and Lymington Town losing to Andover on their own ground. There could be another close match at Brockenhurst where the home side, who have won five of their last six in the League, face a Horndean side who have lost their last two and will be seeking to recover their early season form.  AFC Portchester, who came from behind to win at Baffins Milton Rovers on Wednesday to make it five wins in a row, will be looking to make it six against a Bashley side who do not always travel too well. Cowes Sports, for whom results have not matched performances of late, travel to Alresford Town whilst their Island neighbours Newport (IOW) face Baffins Milton Rovers at St Georges Park. The home side, last Tuesday apart, have had better results of late in Cup Competitions whilst their Portsmouth based visitors have lost their last three after a fine start to the season. At the “wrong” end of the table so to speak, Amesbury Town, who have scored just six goals in the League to date and have conceded twelve in their last two games, host a Bournemouth side who have won their last two and now sit comfortably in mid table, Fareham Town will be hoping that last week’s Vase win can be carried forward to end a long losing run in the League when they visit the slightly inconsistent Shaftesbury while Bemerton Heath Harlequins will be buoyed by their midweek win when they head south to Team Solent. However, it could be a difficult afternoon for bottom of the table Petersfield United when they make the long journey to Hamworthy United who have won five of their last six fixtures in the League.

Division One leaders Laverstock and Ford host a New Milton Town side perhaps still looking for some consistency whilst second placed Christchurch face a potentially difficult afternoon at AFC Stoneham. The latter have quietly moved up to fifth place in the table and the result could well go either way. Third place Romsey Town, who have taken seventeen points from their last six matches, entertain the often free scoring Alton while Andover New Street entertain an East Cowes Victoria side looking for their second away win in as many games. Ringwood Town and Downton, both in mid table, meet at Long Lane with the home side possibly having the edge as regards goals which leads nicely to those at the lower end of the table. Verwood Town, in sixteenth place, face a long journey and a difficult task at Tadley Calleva who give little away on their own ground, whilst Fawley AFC, one point below Verwood Town travel to Whitchurch.  The home side have to bounce back from a disastrous afternoon in the Vase last week whilst Fawley have to improve on a record of just three goals scored in six games. A game that could finish goalless or four all if everything goes right. Goals could also be in short supply at bottom Club Folland Sports where Hythe and Dibden are the visitors with both sides having made managerial changes as they seek an improvement in fortune.
