Chairman of Berks & Bucks FA switches on brand new floodlights for Buckingham Athletic FC

David Grainge, Chairman of the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire FA, officially switched on Buckingham Athletic FC’s (BAFC) new floodlights recently (Thursday 21 September) thanks to a grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), the largest funders of non-league football in the country.

The funding enabled Buckingham Athletic FC, in partnership with Buckingham Athletic Sports and Social Club, to replace their existing floodlights with a state-of-the-art new lighting system. The club are delighted with the outcome of the project as it allows them to deliver safer and more flexible training sessions whilst also saving them money on running costs.

The site will be used by Buckingham Athletic FC’s four teams, which includes a ladies side, as well as being a venue for Berks & Bucks FA Cup Matches and the North Bucks League Cup Finals.

BAFC currently plays in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One. The brand new floodlights system means that their home ground now meets the Grade G requirements of the FA National Ground Grading Criteria for the club’s Step 6 position.

The project was made possible thanks to a £19,865 grant from the Premier League, through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), the largest funders of non-league football in the country. This is the third FSIF grant that the club has benefited from, following funding for equipment and a new changing pavilion.

Funded with £6.5m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF – the sister organisation of the Football Foundation – is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

David Grainge, Chairman of the Berks & Bucks FA, said: “I’d like to thank Buckingham Athletic FC for inviting me to officially switch on their new floodlights for the first time. It is always good news to hear of investment for our local clubs, and I am so glad to see this project come to fruition.

“Thanks to funding provided by the Premier League, the Football Stadia Improvement Fund is doing great work to improve stadia at lower levels of the game. I’d like to congratulate the club for their hard work in securing the funding and throughout the project itself.”

Stephen Orme, Project Manager, said: “There are two big thanks you to the FSIF: the first is for all the help and guidance that all departments of the FSIF have given the club in making this project happen. The second is for the grant funding from the FSIF which has made the renewal of the floodlighting system possible, they are just brilliant.”

Peter McCormick OBE, Chairman of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “I am very pleased to hear that investment from the Premier League, delivered through the FSIF, has enabled Buckingham Athletic FC to install state-of-the-art floodlights.

“The Premier League is committed to improving the experience for players and fans at non-league levels, through projects like this one. By installing new lighting, the club will be able to offer safer, more flexible training and fixtures.”
