Weekend Preview – Saturday 23/12/17

Two games on Friday to set the ball rolling in the Premier Division this week with AFC Portchester, just one win in their last five, hosting near neighbours Fareham Town whilst third place Sholing who are unbeaten in their last ten matches travel a mile or so down the road to Hamble Club. On Saturday leaders Andover Town, who have won eleven of their last thirteen, welcome Shaftesbury to the Portway for the first time with the visitors having only recorded one win in their last seven fixtures. Second place Blackfield and Langley, unbeaten in six, entertain Bournemouth who in turn have not won in six while Hamworthy United, now in fourth spot welcome Amesbury Town, a side in need of points, to the County Ground. Lymington Town, still in the mix at the top and unbeaten in six meet Newport (IOW) at the Sports Ground with the Islanders, though improving of late, still in the bottom three. Cowes Sports also cross the Solent to meet Team Solent, just one place above them in the League and who have scored ten goals in their last two home fixtures. Alresford Town who, like Lymington, are still in the top six face Petersfield Town at Arlebury Park with, even at this early stage, time beginning to run out for the visitors to rescue their season. Portland United, on the back of four successive draws, travel to Bemerton with a fifth possibly on the cards and there is a New Forest clash at Brockenhurst with the visit of Bashley. The “Badgers” have taken only one point from their last five games whilst Bashley have won four of the last six and claimed the Bournemouth Senior Cup in midweek. Lastly Horndean, still not back to their early season form, face an intriguing meeting with Baffins Milton Rovers who tend to blow hot and cold as regards results.

A slightly truncated Division One Programme with one game on Thursday evening when US Portsmouth, always strong at home, host bottom club Folland Sports. Leaders Christchurch are not in action leaving Andover New Street to host the top game in the Division on the day as Romsey Town, one place behind New Street in the table, make the short journey to Foxcotte Park. Their hosts will be looking to get back to winning ways after last week’s defeat at Alton while Romsey have won three of their last five. Laverstock and Ford and New Milton Town, in seventh and eight places in the table respectively yet still in touch with the leaders, are both at home. Laverstock and Ford, with just one win in their last seven, host Wiltshire neighbours Downton whilst New Milton Town, who suffered their first loss in eight games last week, entertain a Ringwood Town side that has just one win in their last seven games. There is a Waterside derby at Fawley as Hythe and Dibden make the short trip down the A326 and goals could be at a premium while two in form Clubs meet at Millers Park. Totton and Eling have three straight wins behind them whilst Alton have won four of their last five so a decent game in prospect. Lastly AFC Stoneham, who have won five of their last seven, entertain Verwood Town who, along with Folland Sports, are looking adrift at the bottom of the table.

A Happy Christmas to all.
