Amesbury Town FC are pleased to announce the appointment of Gareth Horner and Carlo Downie as the club’s joint new First Team Managers. This appointment is immediate following the conclusion of Adam Pearson’s tenure as Interim Manager, which ended with the finalisation of the 16/17 season.
The club are confident that this is the right decision at this point in time, welcoming back not only Gareth, who successfully guided the club into the Wessex Premier in 2015/16 before stepping down to focus on other issues, but also Carlo who also has a long association with the club and helped develop some of the local players that are now regulars in the first team.
On his appointment, Gareth stated “Stepping down from the club a year ago was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in football, though it was necessary that I focused on other areas of my life. However, having been in a position to return to management, something in all honesty I missed intensely, it’s fantastic to be able to come back and take the reins at Amesbury Town. The forthcoming year will be a critical season for the club and we will be looking to establish a competitive squad to continue our development in the Wessex Premier League.”.
Adding to this Carlo detailed “I look forward to working with Gareth and getting the season started. The club has a lot of potential and I am confident that our combined experience and record of success will make a positive impact on the pitch. Therefore, I know that everyone involved at ATFC, including myself and Gareth, will look to ensure a successful season”
In making these changes Club Chairman Gino Nardiello wishes to make his appreciation clear in respect of the hard work, tenacity and commitment shown by Adam Pearson, in what can only be described as challenging circumstances, which helped ensure Amesbury’s continued stay in the Wessex Premier.
