Former Villa striker Darius Vassell to unveil Newman University’s new all-weather pitch

What: Darius Vassell will open Newman University’s new all-weather pitch.
Where: Newman University, Genners Lane, Bartley Green, Birmingham, B32 3NT.
When: Wednesday 20 September at 3pm.

Darius Vassell, former Aston Villa FC and England forward, will officially open Newman University’s upgraded third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch (AGP) on Wednesday 20 September at 3pm. He will be joined by Assistant Referee Sian Massey-Ellis MBE, who is a former Newman University student.

The project received a grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, which helped to make the upgrade a success. The funding enabled Newman University to replace their existing pitch with a state-of-the-art 3G AGP.

The resulting playing surface will be used by the university’s students, as well as partner clubs Bartley Reds FC and Northfield JFC. This is expected to help boost Under-14 football participation at the site by 110%.

Since 2000 the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 382 grants worth £21.5m towards grassroots sports projects worth over £50m across the whole of Birmingham.
