Weekend Preview – Saturday 14/10/17

No hesitation as to where to start this week as the top two teams in the Premier Division meet at the Portway. Neither leaders Blackfield and Langley or second placed Andover Town can still boast one hundred per cent records but Blackfield went down to Lymington Town in their last outing whilst Andover gained a hard earned three points at Shaftesbury. A good attendance looks guaranteed. Third place Sholing with three straight wins behind them travel to the improving Bemerton Heath Harlequins and there is another good game in prospect at Five Heads Park where Horndean host Hamble Club. The home side have scored ten goals in their last two games whilst Hamble have won four of their last six. Baffins Milton Rovers who, like Hamble, have adapted well to the Premier Division host a Portland United side who are struggling to find last season’s consistency whilst AFC Portchester with five wins out of six travel to a Hamworthy United, who have slightly lost their way after their impressive start to the season. Bashley, undoubtedly buoyed by their midweek win at Lymington, host a Fareham Town side slowly coming out of a bad run of results while a little further west Bournemouth have Alresford Town as visitors. The Poppies can score goals but Alresford concede little so a tight match on the cards. Shaftesbury, with just one win in their last six welcome Newport (IOW) to the Cockrams with the Island side also having just one win in their six and now in nineteenth place in the table. A long journey for “The Port” and points vital. Team Solent, still in the bottom two, meet a Brockenhurst side to whom the description “inconsistent” could perhaps be considered apt while last place Petersfield United may find life difficult against a Lymington Town side no doubt smarting from their result in midweek.

A stand out game in Division One as well with Christchurch, following their Vase win in midweek, travelling to Romsey. The two sides between them have won nine of their last twelve matches and both will be looking to maintain the pressure on the leaders Laverstock and Ford. The Wiltshire side went down to a surprise defeat at Verwood Town last time out and now travel to AFC Stoneham who give little away in their own surrounds. Fourth place Tadley, with five wins in their last six, will test Fawley’s recent run of form at Barlows Park whilst two sides on the fringe of the promotion race, Andover New Street and Ringwood Town, meet at Charlton. Street score goals at home and Ringwood are liable to score anywhere so goals may not be at a premium. A tight battle in prospect at New Milton where the home side, sometimes short of goals, entertain US Portsmouth while Whitchurch United, who gained their first away win last week, will be looking to make it two when then travel to meet a Downton side who have won four of their last six. Verwood Town, after their fine win last week, will have to produce the same form to match Alton who are always difficult to beat on their own ground while finally bottom Club Folland Sports, with only one point from a possible last eighteen, travel across Southampton to Totton and Eling – who are happier at home than on the road.

An interesting weekend in prospect.
