Weekend Preview – Saturday 04/11/17

A full League Programme this week before the FA Vase interferes again and Premier Division leaders Andover Town face a perhaps tough test when they take their unbeaten record to Baffins Milton Rovers for the first ever League meeting between the two Clubs. Second place Blackfield and Langley, having got back to winning ways in midweek, host Portland United who are currently safely in mid-table whilst third place Sholing, unbeaten in their last six matches, travel to Bashley who can score goals but often concede more. Horndean, having won their last six matches and in fourth place host Shaftesbury while Lymington Town, who complete the top five entertain Amesbury Town. The Wiltshire side recorded their first victory in six matches last Saturday but face a possibly difficult afternoon at the Sports Ground. Two Clubs who win and lose in equal measure, Brockenhurst and Hamworthy United, meet in the Forest and there is an interesting game in prospect when AFC Portchester travel to Hamble Club. The home side have suffered four defeats in a row whilst AFC Portchester have slipped slightly from their early season form. Towards the lower end of the table Bournemouth and Cowes Sports, who both enjoyed good wins in midweek, meet at Victoria Park and Team Solent will be looking to continue their recent goal scoring form though Fareham Town may have different thoughts when they face each other at Cams Alders. Finally, to the bottom two where Petersfield Town, with only one win in ten, welcome Bemerton Heath Harlequins who are in need of points themselves, while Newport (IOW), desperate to end a losing streak that now stretches to seven matches, will not find that easy against an Alresford Town side who tend to give very little away.

In Division One leaders Laverstock and Ford have the day off so Christchurch can take top spot if they win their “almost” local derby with Verwood Town at Potterne Park. The home side took three points last week and had Cup success in midweek but Christchurch are unbeaten in their last eight matches. The North Hants local derby is at Anstey Park where second place Tadley Calleva are the visitors to Alton in a game that is too close to call while Romsey Town will be looking to further their promotion claims when Whitchurch United come visiting. High scoring Ringwood Town cross the Solent to meet East Cowes Victoria, who no doubt are still on a high after winning at Laverstock seven days ago, while Andover New Street, enjoying their best season for some while travel to bottom Club Folland Sports. Downton, who scored five but still last week host US Portsmouth – one place above them in the table – while Hythe and Dibden will be looking to follow up their high scoring victory over Downton when they travel to New Milton who have only won only one of their last five league fixtures. One more game and another perhaps too close to call as AFC Stoneham journey to Romsey with neither side perhaps showing the consistency they would wish.

All will be probably a little clearer come five o’clock on Saturday.
