Weekend Preview – Saturday 09/12/17

Just the League to concentrate on this week and the big game in the Premier Division is at the County Ground where Hamworthy United entertain Blackfield and Langley. Four wins in a row have taken the Dorset side up to third place in the table, one place behind their opponents, who in turn have won three of their last five. Leaders Andover Town, beaten by Hamworthy last week, make the short journey to the improved Bemerton Heath Harlequins having won the previous two clashes between the sides this season. Sholing, in fourth place, host Cowes Sports who sometimes struggle away from home while fifth place Lymington Town, with three wins in their last five, welcome bottom side Petersfield Town to the Sports Ground with the visitors need for points beginning to look a little on the desperate side. Horndean, experiencing a mini bad run having lost their last three, go to Bournemouth who have lost their last four, so something has to give, whilst sixth place Alresford Town travel to Brockenhurst who have only won two of their last nine League games. An interesting game on the Island where two of our remaining sides in the Vase, Newport (IOW) and Hamble Club, meet at St Georges Park. The home side could badly do with finding a way to carry their Cup form in to the League whilst Hamble Club are bouncing back after a bad run of their own. Two Clubs whose results are of the “up and down” variety, Baffins Milton Rovers and Bashley, meet at the Kendall Stadium while Team Solent and Shaftesbury, neither of whom can claim consistency as a virtue, meet at Test Park. Draw specialists Portland United – their last three games have finished all square –  travel to Fareham Town and finally the other side in the bottom three along with Newport (IOW) and Petersfield Town, Amesbury Town, could face a difficult afternoon at AFC Portchester.

All eyes in Division One will be on Foxcotte Park where leaders Andover New Street meet Tadley Calleva. The home side have won their last six while Tadley have won three of their last four including a good win at AFC Stoneham last week. Another good crowd in prospect at Charlton. Christchurch, who have won nine of their last ten in the League, return from FA Vase action as Ringwood Town make the short journey to Hurn Bridge with just one win in their last five matches to their name. A good game in prospect at Burnaby Road as well as US Portsmouth, unbeaten in three, welcome AFC Stoneham who had won four in a row prior to last Saturday. The vastly improving New Milton Town, who have taken sixteen points from a possible eighteen of late, face Fawley AFC at Fawcetts Field while the difficult to predict Alton head for Hythe and Dibden who will be buoyed by three points away from home last weekend. Two to go with two sides who have not enjoyed too much good fortune of late, Totton and Eling and Whitchurch United, meeting at Millers Park whilst Verwood Town will be hoping to build on their midweek Cup success when Downton come visiting with both sides having lost their last three.

Hopefully the weather will stay kind.
