Weekend Preview – Saturday 13/01/18

One FA Vase Tie carried forward from last week with Newport (IOW) entertaining Western League Bradford Town at St Georges Park and attempting to join Hamble Club in the last sixteen of the Competition. We wish them well. In the Premier Division leaders Andover Town face a test of their credentials as they journey to the aforementioned Hamble Club with the home side buoyed by two Cup wins in four days. Second place Blackfield and Langley will be looking to put their Vase woe behind them when Cowes Sports come to Gang Warily and though the Islanders are clear of the relegation zone points would still be welcome. Sholing, whose long unbeaten run ended at Hamworthy last week, entertain a Bashley side who blow hot and cold though the emphasis has rather been on the “hot” of late whilst Hamworthy, who have won seven of their last eight, travel to Portchester who desperately need a run of results to get back in to the promotion race. A good game in prospect at Arlebury Park where fifth place Alresford Town face sixth place Lymington Town with the visitors unbeaten in six while in the A3 local derby Horndean will be looking to get back to winning ways against Petersfield United, though the visitors will have taken heart from last Saturday’s performance. In form Fareham Town welcome Amesbury Town to Cams Alders with the visitors in need of points whilst Shaftesbury travel to Baffins Milton Rovers with both Clubs in mid table but perhaps lacking consistency. Westward now to Grigg Lane where two sides who have not won in eight and nine matches respectively, Brockenhurst and Bournemouth, meet while further west Portland, who won for the first time in eight matches last week, will be looking to add three more points at the expense of visitors Bemerton Heath Harlequins, another side who would no doubt welcome a little more consistency.

In Division One leaders Andover New Street, happily emulating their Premiership neighbours a mile down the road, travel to Fawley who have one win in five but games in hand on most and second place Tadley Calleva are also on the road with a difficult looking game at New Milton with the home side still difficult to beat though their form has dipped slightly. Christchurch will be looking to extend their long unbeaten run when Whitchurch United visit Hurn Bridge with the North Hampshire side having only won once in their last seven games, whilst Laverstock and Ford travel to bottom Club Folland Sports with the earlier meeting between the two Clubs resulting in a heavy defeat for the Hamble based side. Alton, heavily defeated at Tadley last week travel again, this time to Downton who have won only one of their last six and there should be a good game at Millers Park where Romsey Town are the visitors. Totton and Eling have won their last four while Romsey are still in the promotion shake up. United Services Portsmouth, unbeaten in five, entertain the up and down Ringwood Town whilst Verwood Town will be looking to follow up last week’s welcome win when the head across the Solent to East Cowes Victoria for whom goals are still sometimes a problem.

Hopefully none of the above will be spoiled by the weather.
