Weekend Preview by John Gorman

Premier Division

A virtually full League Programme this week with Premier Division leaders Andover Town looking to maintain their lead when they entertain Newport at the Portway with the visitors badly in need of points at the wrong end of the table. Second place Blackfield and Langley, after winning at Bashley in midweek, are on the road again with a visit to Fareham while third place Hamworthy will welcome Team Solent to the County Ground. Hamworthy have won four of their last six but Team Solent scored six in midweek and the points will certainly be well contested.

Sholing go to Horndean for a game that could go either way and may not feature many goals while there will be another close encounter at Alresford where AFC Portchester are the opposition. Alresford give very little away at home, the two sides are fifth and sixth in the table and the visitors have won their last five. Just one point separates Bournemouth and Bashley, who meet at Victoria Park and Hamble Club return to League action after their Vase adventure with a visit from fellow promoted Club Shaftesbury.

Portland, a point in midweek, will be looking for signs of the “new manager bounce” when they visit Lymington who have won just two of their last six and Bemerton will be hoping to follow up on their midweek win when Brockenhurst visit Western Way. The”Badgers” are experiencing a dreadful run of results at present and have slipped to eighteenth place in the table. Lastly two more sides in need of points. Amesbury, beaten by the odd goal in seven in midweek, meet Baffins Milton Rovers – another Club with new faces in the managerial role – while bottom Club Petersfield, who have put up some good performances of late without any reward in the form of points, welcome Cowes Sports to Love Lane with the Islanders very much struggling on their recent travels.

Division One

There is a crunch game at the top of Division One with leaders New Street taking on 4th placed Christchurch who have games in hand. Christchurch won the reverse game 4-1 & they will be right on the heels of the leaders with another win. Second place Tadley, with four wins in five, visit US Portsmouth, six wins in seven, for another crunch game and Laverstock and Ford will be hoping to maintain the form that has taken them into third place when they travel to New Milton.

Stoneham will be looking to extend their three match winning run against Alton, who still cannot produce their home form with any regularity on the road. Totton and Eling meet Ringwood in a game that could go either way and the same could be said of the Whitchurch v Downton clash at Longmeadow with the home side needing to turn single goal defeats into points.

Fawley with three wins out of five go to Verwood who have shown signs of improvement of late and there is something of a bottom of the table meeting on the Island with Follands the visitors to Beatrice Avenue and East Cowes Vics.

It does look as though the weather could behave this week as well!! (fingers crossed)
