AFC Stoneham v Eversley & California 16/10/18

AFC Stoneham 3 Eversley & California 0

STRAIGHTFORWARD win for the home team against opponents who tried hard, but they were mostly second to the ball and certainly less physical. An early effort by each team, Alex Welch over for the homesters, Bradley Brown for the visitors forcing a save from Williams. But Stoneham went a goal up after 7 minutes, the ball wasn’t cleared, an initial header was going wide but was recycled, and Joe SUTHERDEN had a tap-in.

The visitors replied with a ball down the left for Sapsed to chase but Williams was out quickly, getting a knock for his troubles. The game then became a bit of a midfield battle with any chances created by Stoneham, who looked stronger. A good cross by Laptas eluded everyone, and Sutherden had a header saved, before, on 37 minutes, they got their second, a well-placed 25-yarder by Matt BAINBRIDGE which went in off the inside of the post with keeper Lusty looking on helplessly. Owen Powell had a shot wide for the visitors but the home team finished the half strongly, Laptas and Welch coming close. HT 2-0

Much the same after the break, although the visitors started well. However, the home team again had the chances, a Jiminez cross finding no takers, then another good cross saw Laptas head towards the far post where Sutherden, stretching, put it wide. Jiminez then had a shot saved by Lusty after a good Stoneham move. The killer goal came on 78 minutes as the home team won the ball and a quick move saw a good cross from the right and a good finish from SUTHERDEN.

The visitors almost pulled one back straight away as a cross saw Brown manage to head the ball against the bar almost from the goal line. Again towards the end the home team looked strong and almost increased their lead as a bobble foiled Bainbridge just before he was going to shoot, sub Rattley shot wide after a good break and Jiminez fired over. A convincing performance from the Purples. FT 3-0
