Baffins Milton Rovers v Alton 15/01/19

Baffins Milton Rovers 4 Alton 0

Ultimately this was a comfortable win for Baffins but Alton gave a spirited performance particularly in the first half and were still giving 100% right to the end.

For a start it would be remiss not to comment on the facilities at the PMC Stadium. It is 3 years since I had visited the ground and the transformation is remarkable from the immaculate playing surface to the impressive new club house.

The game took 20 minutes to settle down and during this period it was Alton that had the best chance when Taylor Watts streaked clear but he was foiled by the onrushing home keeper, Cameron Scott.

After 22 minutes Baffins took the lead as Harry Wedlake cut in from the left and unleashed a shot that bounced just in front of Alton keeper Lewis Boughton. He will think he should have collected the ball rather that parrying it out to Max PADDON who scored from close range.

The goal allowed Baffins to settle into their passing game and for the remainder of the half they dominated. HT 1-0

Eight minutes into the second period Baffins doubled their lead as the impressive Tommy Tierney fed Paddon on the right. Jason PARRISH had lost his marker at the far post and he scored with a downward header from Paddon’s cross.

Baffins were now in full flow with most of the danger coming down the left where young full back, Freeman Williams, was joined from the bench by Callum Dart who very quickly tested the woodwork. Blu Boam was another substitute making his first appearance in 4 months after an injury.

The third goal arrived in the 72 minute and there was either an element of luck or skill about it and I am not sure which. A cross struck an Alton defender’s foot and the ball bounced up onto DART’s head with the ball then looping high into the net over a stranded Boughton.

Finally after a minute of stoppage time PARRISH completed the scoring with a tap in at the far post.

So Baffins are in the Semi Final for the second time in 3 years but it will be some time before they know their opponents with two rounds still to play in the other quarter of the draw. (Roger Allen)
