Bournemouth v Fareham Town 05/02/19

Bournemouth 0 Fareham Town 0

Despite the lack of goals this was an entertaining game between two closely matched sides played in driving rain for the most part.

The closest either side came to scoring was the first real chance of the game when, in the 7th minute, Lewis Stockford rattled the Bournemouth cross bar with the ball coming back into play.

Both sides struggled to make the breakthrough though River Smith had the ball in the net twice in 5 minutes but was flagged offside on both occasions. In fact River was offside so many times that it was surprising he was not carded for persistent infringement.

Of the legal chances the best fell to Smith but he drove across goal just missing the far post and then Declan McCarthy in the Fareham goal pushed a shot over from the same player. Dom Falco was also wide when well placed.

The final chance of the half fell to Stockford but he shot across the Poppies goal. HT 0-0

The second half continued in much the same vein with Poppies having the bulk of the chances. All the strikers had chances to score when one on one with McCarthy but the keeper, giving a man of the match performance, produced a string of fine saves to keep the score sheet blank.

As the match wore on the inevitability of a no score draw became more and more certain. FT 0-0 (Roger Allen)
