Bournemouth v Horndean 13/04/19

Bournemouth 0 Horndean 0

DISAPPOINTING game all things considered, with runners up place up for grabs however it was probably too much to ask for an entertaining afternoon. Neither goalkeeper was tested, although Lloyd Thomas was the busier of the two particularly toward the end of each half when Poppies could have nicked a victory.

The best chance in the opening period didn’t come until six minutes before the break when the ‘Deans keeper made a superb point blank save to deny River Smith adding to his season total, and in the final action of the half Harry Jackson also threatened to make a breakthrough but Poppies’ Sam Jones was equal to the challenge. HT 0-0

The visitors came out with some more purpose in the second half, and looked to be getting on top with a prolonged spell of pressure at the Winton end of the ground, but the hosts’ defence were on top and perhaps their best chance came just short of the hour when an Edwards free kick was spilled by Jones, but he was quickest to react and smothered the ball at the second attempt.

The final ten minutes saw Poppies’ Harvey Elsom have a scorching 30 yard shot turned away by Thomas and in the last action, Thomas was again called into action with another point blank save from Smith. The point is enough for Horndean to claim second place prize money. FT 0-0 (Mike Robins)
