AHEAD of the match Jack Smith appeared to pick up a knock in the warm up but was able to start. Cowes manager John McKie produced the first save from Ryan Gosney low down to his right then Jake Hoole had two opportunities to open the Boatmen’s account Brad Targett and skipper Mason linked up to find Hoole inside the box but hits his effort over without testing Hatt then two minutes later Brad Targett’s cross finds Jake Hoole free but the forward glances his header wide. Brad Targett was causing Dominic Sexton trouble down the right wing and won Sholing’s first corner but was easily defended by Cowes.

A ball over the top hit’s Alex Sawyer on the shoulder the midfielder fires the ball past Ed Hatt on 14 minutes however the Assistant Referee adjudged it to be handball to squash the Boatmen’s celebration. Cuthbertson finds Dan Mason who holds up the ball then picks out Alex Sawyer who shoots over from 18 yards.

At the other end a John McKie shot doesn’t test Ryan Gosney and goes wide. Halfway through the first period Pete Castle’s long ball found Dan Mason- the striker releases Brad Targett on goal but is judged offside to the relief of the Yachtsmen’s defence. Sholing had a scare when Cuthbertson cushioned his header back to Ryan Gosney but the ball went wide of Gosney who had to react quickly to smoother the ball before passing him into the net.

After 28 minutes John McKie eased past Jack Smith and evades Owen Royl’s tackle but shoots wide a minute later Aiden Coode fails to hit the target with his effort. At the other end Dan Mason is pulled back by the centre back just outside the area no card shown, Alex Sawyer and Jake Hoole line up the free kick just right of the goal and it was Jake Hoole’s effort going inches wide of the upright. Jack Smith was clearly struggling with his rolled ankle in the warm up and was replaced 10 minutes before half time by Marvin McLean.

The next couple of chances fell to Cowes Jack Broomfield crosses for Conor White but his header goes wide, then Jez Conway is upended just outside of the area on the right Cowes skipper Gareth Bricknell drives his kick wide of the Sholing goal with no one able to get a touch. Then Pete Castle was in action at both ends first a strong tackle denies John McKie as the forward shot. Then at the other end just before half time Dan Mason robs the defender sets up Jake Hoole who finds Brad Targett but his effort is blocked for a corner, from the corner Pete Castle header is saved by Ed Hatt. HT 0-0

First opportunity fell to Jake Hoole but his effort goes over the bar. Brad Targett receives a yellow card for a foul on Dominic Sexton on 53 minutes. Three minutes later the deadlock is broken when Dan Mason finds Jake Hoole and lays the ball off to Alex SAWYER who strikes the ball past Ed Hatt before the restart Brad Targett was replaced by Bradey Norton. Cowes made their first change bringing on Charlie Allen for Aiden Coode. An altercation between Byron Mason and Callum Chase saw them receive a stern lecture from referee Lowe.

Cowes then replaced Callum Chase on 76 minutes with Nicky Vyse. With ten minutes to go Sholing sealed up the game when Jake Hoole is denied by Ed Hatt but the keepers save is followed up by Alex SAWYER who heads into the empty net. With Alex Sawyer looking for his hattrick Jake Hoole’s cross is met by Bradley
Norton but the midfielder fires over two minutes later. With five minutes later Jack Nicholas replaces Jake Hoole and is straight in action but fires his shot straight at Ed Hatt. FT 0-2 (Greg Dickson)
