Hamworthy United v Fareham Town 19/01/19

Hamworthy Town 5 Fareham Town 0

CLINICAL strikes from Dan CANN effectively killed off this game after 35 minutes. The striker opened his account when a free kick was awarded for hand ball of the edge of the penalty area at the School end of the ground which was crashed home with keeper Declan McCarthy unable to get a hand to it. His second was from a similar distance. A Louie Castles clearance was returned in spades, as CANN fired home to make it 2-0.

The third was not long in coming either. A Sam Bayston run up the left flank evaded the visiting defence and CANN was on hand and unmarked to drill the ball home from six yards. The half continued in much the same vein as McCarthy made one of serval crucial stops to keep the score down- denying Bayston with a fine acrobatic leap a couple of minutes after the third. Tom Froggatt also made a perfect challenge on Bayston to thwart the danger as the first period drew to a close. HT 3-0

The second half started better for the Creeksiders and a free kick from Curt Robins was their opening chance, a couple of minutes in. Moments later an Ash Tattersall through ball found Gary Austin but the ball was just too quick on the wet surface and the chance was gone. Hamworthy thought they had extended their lead just short of the hour mark when Olly Balmer found the net only to be ruled out as offside. But the fourth did arrive moments later when Dan CANN converted from some 25 yards, and arguably the best of his bunch.

A good win for the Hammers was completed when sub Luke STONE converted from the penalty spot on 68 minutes, although McCarthy did make some good stops to keep the score down. Fareham almost grabbed a consolation with seven minutes left when Austin’s shot from 20 yards was palmed away by Tom Rees to keep the clean sheet. FT 5-0 (Mike Robins)
