Lymington Town v Alresford Town 16/10/18

Lymington Town 5 Alresford Town 1

THE hosts had three early chances with the final ball being the stumbling block, Charlie Willett on two occasions just couldn’t get that final touch and on 25 minutes fired a shot over the bar after a Mike Gosney free kick could only be partially parried by the Magpies ‘keeper Dan Kempson.
The opening goal came on 27 minutes when Jake KING found the net, in a way it had been coming. Then, a real bit of controversy. An Alresford attack up the flank ended with a Rowan Vine cross that was headed goalwards by Aaron BLAXALL. Newman got more than a hand to it to guide it on to the crossbar and away. The Referee gave a goal. Impossible to say from my position- but the referee was adamant yet was probably between the edge of the penalty area and the penalty spot, an odd decision.

Anyway in a contest that was very stop start, it wasn’t long before Lymington restored their lead. Again it was KING, this time flicking on a Gosney free kick that Kempson had no chance of stopping. HT 2-1

Within a minute of the restart KING completed his hat trick and it was beginning to look like a long night for the Magpies as they racked up five yellow cards and eventually a red when Matt Scott was dismissed late on. With 15 minutes left, Charlie WILLETT was able to atone for his earlier lapse, with a shot being well saved by Kempson, but on 79 again denied by Kempson before he eventually grabbed the fourth from the resulting corner.

With just three minutes left Mike GOSNEY rounded off an excellent game with a simply superb curling shot from some 30 yards into the far corner that Kempson had no chance of reaching. FT 5-1 (Mike Robins)
