Lymington Town v Brockenhurst 30/10/18

Lymington Town 0 Brockenhurst 2

THESE two local rivals met on Tuesday evening with both looking for consistency and neither likely to trouble the Club of the Month adjudicators.

The result was a poor game where the main talking point, even amongst unbiased spectators, was the performance of the referee. Tim Stephenson, Lymington’s captain was cautioned very early in the game for a hard but perfectly fair challenge no doubt encouraged by a writhing Brock player who moments later was able to play a full part in the game. There was some debate over whether the final yellow card count which was sadly was nine or ten.

The crucial moments in the game came just before the half hour. First on 23 minutes Matt CASEY was on the end of a smart passing move to place the ball past Nic Jones in the home goal. Then four minutes later Brock were awarded a free kick wide on the right and Matt Burt headed back across goal for Mo NYANG to slide the ball home from close range. HT 0-2

Lymington had been largely anonymous as an attacking force in the first half but their performance improved in the second as they tried to take the game to Brock. However in the shape of Burt they met a rock at the heart of the Brock defence who kicked and headed clear most attacks.

The game meandered on to a conclusion as the card count steadily grew. For Brock, a welcome win preparing for their weekend Vase game but on the evidence of this game it is going to be a long season for both clubs. FT 0-2 (Roger Allen)
