Ringwood Town v Folland Sports 24/11/18

Ringwood Town 3 Folland Sports 1

DESPITE poor weather these two sides out on a decent game this afternoon. For long spells it was difficult to understand why both teams languish towards the foot of the table but the hosts did enough in the end to see off their visitors.

Early exchanges saw hosts have a couple of decent chances with Harrison Clark having enough strength to create goal attempts, but it was the Planemakers who struck first. 4A free kick from Krysty Sullivan floated into the goalmouth at the Allotments end and evading a number of players fell to Ash SIMMONDS who guided it home from five yards. Moments later there was some panic in the home defence, but new boy Ant Croucher did enough to steer the ball to safety.

The game settled down a bit but was end to end with the final ball just eluding both sides. Jamie Kemp and Ben Harris for Ringwood both came close and an under hit back pass saw home keeper Luke Silcox having to rush out of this area to prevent Sanchez McLean doubling the Follands lead. Ringwood got back on level terms on 25 minutes. Vint played the ball into the path of HARRIS – who made a solo run before unleashing a strike that just had the pace to slip under Ash Downs in the Follands goal. The goal lifted the home side who had some more chances as the half drew to a close with Kemp having a shot across the face of goal and Downs just getting to the ball before Vint could reach the ball. Just five minutes before the break a Flynn Wearden strike from distance was tipped away by Downs to keep things all square. HT 1-1

With the drizzle continuing to fall the first real chance of the second period came when McLean was denied a goal when Max Mason made a well-timed challenge at the edge of the penalty area to keep things level. Follands began to press for a second and a long range drive from Sullivan took a deflection when a goal looked the likely outcome, the visitors forced a string of corners but couldn’t turn advantage into a goal. A silly free kick was given away in the D but the wall did its job and the following melee saw Silcox make a brave save to keep Follands at bay.

The second goal for Ringwood came on 72. Harris worked an opening on the right and his cross fell nicely to CLARK who fired home from the edge of the penalty area. This was a blow for the visitors who looked like they would get the second, but insult to injury was added with six minutes left when the goal of the game came. Substitute Jordi Coltman put a good cross in from the Stand side and VINT had time to bring it down and volley home from the edge of the penalty area to make it three. The visitors nearly got a deserved second themselves in the closing minute when Will Gange saw a free kick tipped over by Silcox. FT 3-1 (Mike Robins)
