Ringwood Town v Laverstock & Ford

LAVERSTOCK OVERCOME SLOW START

Ringwood Town 3 Laverstock & Ford 5

This was a testing warm up for both teams ahead of F.A. Cup games at the weekend and it was Ringwood who were faster out of the blocks. There were ahead as early as the 4th minute when Lee Vint squared the ball to present his strike partner, RIVER SMITH, with an open goal. Laverstock looked very rusty and they went two down on 16 minutes when VINT, flirting with offside, got the run on the defence to score easily past Alexis Aguer in the away goal.

Still Laverstock looked sluggish but, with almost their first passing move, they pulled a goal back when Tyler BROCKWAY scored from close range. Five minutes later they were level as Lewis WYKES’ shot found the far corner from the edge of the penalty area.

In the last action of the 1st half Ringwood restored their lead. A Vint header bounced down off the underside of the bar and looked to have crossed the line. Following up, RIVER SMITH made sure and he was credited with the goal. (HT 3-2)

The second half was a different story as Laverstock completely dominated from first whistle to last. Just before the hour Graham MANKIN levelled things with a header from a free kick and it was no surprise when they took the lead with a shot from 10 yards by Rob GALLAGHER.

Ringwood’s cause was not helped by a second yellow card for skipper Charlie Heggan for delaying a free kick and on 73 minutes GALLAGHER got Laverstock’s fifth as he applied the crucial touch in a goalmouth scramble.

This game does not suggest either side will be short of goals but much more will be expected of both defences if they are to launch the expected title challenge.
