Ringwood Town v Petersfield Town 26/01/19

Ringwood Town 2 Petersfield Town 1

For the second time in a week the home side scored the winning goal in stoppage time – I wondered about duplicating my midweek report especially when the first half of this game was so low key.

To be fair to the players the game was played in windy conditions and, for much of the second half, driving rain added to their problems. Lee Vint for Ringwood had an early chance but his shot was well saved by Nick Hall.

It took the sides a further 10 minutes to fashion another chance when Ben Harris produced an awkward low shot that Hall did well to smother.

Petersfield finally found their shooting boots midway through the half but Michael Wright was off target and Matt Rowland’s lob beat Ringwood keeper Luke Silcox but also cleared the bar. The final chance of the half fell to Harry Tremlett but his shot was well held by Silcox. HT 0-0

The game finally came to life after 49 minutes when Petersfield striker, ROWLAND ran onto a through ball, held off his marker and prodded the ball low past the advancing keeper.

Once again the game went into a quiet period with lots of frustrating stoppages for minor fouls. However of 79 minutes Ringwood got an equaliser. Substitute, Jamie KEMP, found himself at a narrow angle just to the right of goal and managed to squeeze the ball past Hall. A covering defender could only deflect the ball into the net.

So a draw it was or so we thought. However 2 minutes into stoppage time there was a goalmouth scramble in the Petersfield penalty area which ended with VINT scoring from close range. FT 2-1 (Roger Allen)
