Romsey Town v Fawley AFC 12/01/19

Romsey Town 1 Fawley AFC 0

Ultimately it was a single goal – a penalty just after half time – that separated the two sides but for long periods, particularly in the first half, the game was dominated by Romsey. However a combination of wayward finishing and last ditch defending meant the game held a decent crowd’s interest to the end.

Romsey gave early notice of their intentions as Matt Page headed over from a corner then Jack Odam’s speculative shot from fully 35 yards was tipped over by Fawley’s Page at the expense of a corner.

Fawley were unable to get out of their own half as Romsey continued to press. Midway through the half Zach Mouland had an effort pushed over and from the resulting corner Matt Page’s header was pushed onto the bar by his namesake.

In the final moments of the half an Odam free kick was scrambled away after Page had made a point black save in the middle of a goalmouth melee. H.T. 0-0

Romsey gave early notice of their intentions as Odam had a shot deflected away and Mouland on the turn was just too high. Finally the breakthrough came as Geoff Dunn was flattened by Reece Macey just inside the penalty area. ODAM stepped up to take the kick, looked one way and sent the kick into the opposite corner.

Romsey continued to dominate for the first half of the second period and Odam shot wide when well placed whist Jon Page produced a good save to deny Mouland.

Slowly Fawley came into the game during the last quarter hour and having been outplayed for much of the game you just wondered if they might snatch an equaliser. Their best chance fell to Will Lawrence with 5 minutes to go but his effort was just over.

So Romsey gained the 3 points which kept them in touch with the 3 clubs ahead of them. (Roger Allen)
