Sholing v Team Solent

Sholing won the cup double in the space of three days after a fantastic second half performance helped them to a 3-1 victory over ten man Team Solent.

Dan Mason’s phenomenal individual goal, Lee Wort’s penalty and Michael Hubbard’s long range strike guided Sholing to cup glory, Tyrell Mitford scored for Team Solent.

Solent started the brighter of the two teams and had the game’s first chance. Jesse Waller-Lassen blasting just wide of the target as Solent were starting to stamp their authority on the final.

In the 18th minute Solent were unlucky not to be ahead. Tobi Adekunle saw his terrific effort from 25 yards rattle the crossbar and come back into play.

The early scare seemed to spark life into the Sholing team and they were ahead five minutes later through Mason’s excellent turn and finish.

Having picked up the ball from the edge of the area, the centre forward turned his man and steered his effort into the bottom corner to give his team the lead.

The lead lasted all of five minutes though, as Team Solent equalised on the counter attack. Good attacking play was finished off by Mitford who slotted into an empty net to level the encounter.

Hubbard saw his curling effort wide of the target as the two teams went into half time level with all to play for in the second half.

The Boatmen started the second half impressively and were almost ahead straight away as Luke Dempsey saw his effort just wide of the target.

Their early pressure paid off as Sholing were awarded a penalty in the 48th minute after Wiseman was judged to have handled the ball deliberately, he also went into the book.

Wort made no mistake from the spot and Sholing were deservedly ahead once again.

Wiseman received his second yellow only five minutes after his first, this time for dissent and the game was completely in Sholing’s hands.

Sholing’s passing improved and they were controlling the game comfortably.

Hubbard completed the scoring for the night after his impressive long range strike beat Team Solent’s keeper at his near post.

The eventual cup winners kept their composure and defended well to ensure that they would be lifting the shield after the game.

An excellent second half performance from The Boatmen was the difference and they fully deserved to end their incredible cup run with the trophy.
