Team Solent v Bemerton Heath Harlequins 25/02/19

Team Solent 2 Bemerton Heath Harlequins 0

This defeat pushed a spirited Bemerton side nearer the Premier Division trap door. Although they had plenty of the game in midfield and defended well until late in the game when they were a man light, it is hard to recall them asking Jimmy Taylor, the Solent goalkeeper, to make a save.

The game started at a hundred miles an hour and continued that way through a frantic first half. Dan Kempson, the Bemerton keeper was the man of the match and early on he was called upon to make a good save from Ethan Taylor.

On 20 minutes Hisham Kasimu fired just wide for the students and 4 minutes later provided a cross for Silvano Obeng to head against a post. The next chance also fell to Obeng when he was put through one on one with Kempson who again saved.

Just before half time Solent captain Sam Hartley was just wide with a header from a Ryan Penny free kick. HT 0-0

Early in the second half Bemerton managed to stem the flow of Solent attacks so that chances were few and far between. However the Bemerton goal led a charmed life on 65 minutes when Obeng looked to have a simple task to finish a good move. The heavy going in the goalmouth enabled Kempson to recover and scramble the ball off the line with his feet.

The game was beginning to get fractious as a series of challenges led to the flourishing of a number of yellow cards. It seemed that the sides would not end with a full compliment and so it proved when Jamie Smith of Bemerton received a second yellow with 10 minutes to go.

This opened the way for Solent to become even more dominant and on 83 minutes OBENG was on the end of a Luke Bennett cross to score with a well placed header.

In the second minute of stoppage time OBENG added to his tally when he was allowed to turn on the edge of the penalty area and fire low past Kempson. FT 2-0 (Roger Allen)
