MALCOLM WATTS RIP
The League was sad to hear that its former Fixture Secretary, Malcolm Watts, had passed away.
Malcolm had a long association with the League and was involved on the refereeing side in the early years – current Vice Chairman Bob Purkiss recalls officiating with him on many occasions – before becoming interested in the administration side of the League. He assisted on the fixtures side before taking on the role of Fixtures Secretary in 1998, a post he was to fill with skill and good humour for fourteen years until standing down in 2012.
Malcolm was always helpful and cheerful and became known as something of a “night bird” with both League Officials and Clubs becoming used to receiving emails timed well after the midnight hour. The hours he spent working for the League were fitted in alongside a responsible role at Pirelli where he worked for many years,
He kept in touch with and followed the fortunes of the League after his retirement but had suffered with poor health for some years and sadly lost his wife within the last eighteen months.
The League extends its sincere condolences to his family and will remember Malcolm as a first class Officer and a Gentleman.
